# Delete products and variants

Permanently delete matching products, or delete variants that have a specific option value.

{% hint style="danger" %}
These edits are **permanent**. Deleted products and variants cannot be restored by the app, and the **Revert** action is not available for these tasks. Consider setting products to **Draft** or **Archived** instead. See [Status](/bulk-price-editor-sami/field-guides/status.md).
{% endhint %}

## Delete product

<figure><img src="https://1559832597-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fw4HtMDNMyRJ8FelzhTov%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-0449d24bfdc863db2f9e213f7fdcb4db28a2ac59%2Ffield-delete-product.png?alt=media" alt="Field to edit card for Delete products with a warning that products will be permanently deleted"><figcaption><p>Delete products</p></figcaption></figure>

There are no edit options. Choose the products with **Apply to products**, check the preview, and save. Because the change is destructive:

* The confirmation dialog is titled **Confirm product deletion** and the button reads **Delete products**.
* **Recurring** start and **Schedule the revert** are not offered.
* The task details page shows **Products deleted** instead of **Products changed**, and each row shows **Permanently deleted**.

## Delete variants by option value

Deletes every variant whose option value matches exactly.

| Input                       | Notes                                                                                             |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Option position**         | Option 1, Option 2 or Option 3.                                                                   |
| **Option values to delete** | One value per line or comma-separated, for example `XS, S`. Matching is exact and case-sensitive. |

Shopify requires every product to keep at least one variant. If **all** variants of a product match, that product is skipped entirely and none of its variants are deleted. The preview marks such products with **Product skipped — all variants match**.

## Remove product options

Removing an option position can also delete duplicate variants permanently. See [Product options and variants](/bulk-price-editor-sami/field-guides/product-options.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.samita.io/bulk-price-editor-sami/field-guides/delete-products.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
